There are a huge, HUGE, number of books and ebooks
available today. Some of my favorites were recommended reads that other
bloggers, readers and authors talked about on their blogs/websites, etc. If
these people had not expressed their opinion, I might never have found the
books.
The books listed below are some of my favorites and
if you haven’t read them yet, you should.
The setting is what originally piqued my interest; May in Oklahoma. As a life-long resident
of the Sooner state I know that the month of May can often be a volatile, hot,
stormy and dangerous time. The five days in Ninie’s book are all of that and
more.
The story is about a young prisoner, Princess, and
the five days leading up to her execution for murder. Princess is a unique and
interesting character and the story of how she ended up in prison is riveting.
But this is also a story of a family in crisis, a daughter in distress and a
father in unfamiliar territory and how their lives intersect with Princess’ and
lead up to the storm-tossed climax.
This book grabbed me from the very beginning and
held me through the shocking end.
Rot & Ruin By Jonathan Maberry
Yes, this is a zombie book, and yes, I love it! This
is a very well thought out story written by one of my favorite authors. It
takes place years after the beginning of the zombie apocalypse; teens who were
toddlers when it all began are now looking to get their first job.
Benny reluctantly goes into the family business with
his older half-brother, Tom. But Benny does not really know what that business
entails, and he will have to change his thinking and his attitude if he wants
to survive.
This is another zombie book, but it is different
than any zombie story I have ever read. Melanie is a girl who lives in a cell
at a ‘school’ on a military base and the story is told from her point of view.
She is taken to class each day by armed soldiers, after she has been strapped
to a wheelchair. How she came to be in this school and what has happened in the
world gradually comes to light.
Unique and interesting, I think you will enjoy it.
Henry Bins has a condition called Henry Bins, named
for him because he was the first documented case. His life consists of one hour
awake, 3:00-4:00 A.M., and 23 hours in a coma-like sleep. You might think with
his schedule he would not have time to solve a murder, but you would be wrong.
This is a novella and as such it is a quick read. Both
Henry and the murder-mystery are interesting and I like the way the author
moves the action along one hour at a time.
Happy reading!
God Bless,
Cyndy
